Jena Kruger and Chioma Okeafor receive Heavenrich scholarships Monday, November 02, 2009 (112 reads)
We are pleased to announce that Jena Kruger and Chioma Okeafor have been selected as recipients of a scholarship sponsored by the Robert M. Heavenrich, MD, Endowed Fund in Pediatrics. This endowed fund was established in 1992 in honor of Dr. Robert M. Heavenrich of Saginaw. The scholarship is presented annually to a student who is interested in pursuing pediatrics; with a preference given to students who are training in the Saginaw community. The student must have shown through involvement, an interest in advocating for children’s issues, demonstration of enthusiasm in the caring and compassion of patients and must demonstrate academic excellence.

Obesity expert George A. Bray, MD, presents Heavenrich Lectures Sunday, November 01, 2009 (98 reads)
George A. Bray, MD, Boyd Professor, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, presented the 18th Annual Heavenrich Lecture Series with talks in both Saginaw and the Lansing area. On October 20, 2009, he addressed "How Do We Get Fat?" in Saginaw. The following day he presented "Does Diet Matter?" at Sparrow Hospital, followed by "Who Needs Drugs for Obesity?" on the Michigan State University campus.

The fifth annual Teddy Bear Picnic and Teddy Bear Hospital, hosted by the Michigan State University Department of Pediatrics & Human Development and the MSU Children’s Health Initiative, was Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Children's Horticultural Gardens on campus. Designed especially for children, their parents and of course, a favorite teddy bear friend, the Teddy Bear Picnic is filled with excitement and fun! Area pediatricians, medical staff, dentists and volunteers join forces to treat children’s teddy bears in our own Teddy Bear Hospital.

Fifth Annual Cross-Campus Pediatric Residency Day Friday, October 02, 2009 (89 reads)
Forty-six pediatric residents and 10 faculty members from Michigan State University's affiliated pediatric residency programs participated in the Fifth Annual Cross-Campus Pediatric Residency Day on September 16, 2009.
This day provided Pediatric Residents from Flint, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Lansing an opportunity to get together, familiarize themselves with each other, participate in discussions, and share ideas as to how to enhance their education. The gathering was organized by the Department of Pediatrics & Human Development at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Kalamazoo, Flint, and Grand Rapids.
