The
Department of Pediatrics and Human Development has a three pronged Human Genetics Program consisting of three diagnostic clinical laboratories, an inpatient and outpatient clinical consultative program, and solid basic science research. The clinical components of the MSU Human Genetics program of the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development are located in the Life Sciences Building on the campus of Michigan State University. Inpatient consultations occur at Sparrow Regional Child Center and Ingham Regional Medical Center.
The clinical program consists of three service laboratories: DNA Diagnostics, Cytogenetics, and Prenatal Screening, as well as comprehensive clinical program staffed by genetics counselors and clinical geneticists. MSU Human Genetics has provided genetics service in the local community, throughout the state of Michigan, and across the nation since 1969. The division has built its reputation on providing the highest level of customer service and patient care. We offer expert interpretation of test results, immediate telephone reporting of abnormal test results, and consultative services with board certified genetics counselors, clinicians, and laboratory directors. The basic scientists consist of PhD geneticists who conduct a variety of research ranging from adult stem cell research to the genetics of hearing loss.
