Pediatrics Clerkship PHD 600

The required Pediatric Clerkship is an eight-week experience comprised of inpatient, ambulatory, community experiences, and nursery rotation coordinated by a full-time clerkship director in each community. The clerkships across communities share common goals and objectives. Clerkship directors meet bi-monthly to discuss curricular issues and student performance, and to share educational material.

The clerkship is designed to emphasize skills, knowledge, and attitudes required for general pediatrics. Each student is provided with a list of core learning topics, a required reading list, and independent problem-solving exercises; students also attend several teaching sessions and weekly conferences. Each student is evaluated based on scores from the NBME shelf examination, evaluation by clinical preceptors, performance-based assessments, graded written patient records, and performance on a structured oral examination based on the clinical problem solving exercises.
